Below a bedrock outcrop; downslope from the Otter Creek Wilderness Area in National Forest a few old sawed stumps noted from plot.;Gentle dissected slopes on lower flank of mountain (putative shale parent material). Forest of large red oak, somewhat smaller black cherry, and other northern hardwood species. Shrub layer absent, probably due to deer browse. Herb layer dominated by ferns but with a number of rich indicators, possibly indicating limestone influence.
